Get help along the way!

From its first publication in 1875 to today, the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures has transformed the lives of thousands of spiritual wayfarers who have ventured into its pages. Mary Baker Eddy intended her book to be a practical guidebook for healing and solving problems of all kinds—moral, physical, political or financial.

The book's last chapter, Fruitage, consists of 100 pages of testimonies from people who were healed by reading the book on their own. These healings are still going on every day all over the world, as recorded in the Christian Science Publishing Society's weekly and monthy magazines(the Christian Science Sentinel, The Christian Science Journal, and The Herald of Christian Science.)

That being said, sometimes challenges just seem too overwhelming to face alone. For that reason, the Christian Science movement makes compassionate provision for prayerful and caring support from other Christian Scientists who have dedicated their lives to helping and healing others.

Christian Science practitioners

From time to time, all of us need the help of an experienced traveller—someone who has demonstrated enough spiritual strength, understanding, and healing in their own lives so that they are in a position to help others find their way. A practitioner is a Christian Scientist who devotes full time to the ministry of Christian healing.

To be a practitioner requires study, consecrated prayer, and a demonstrated ability to apply spiritual understanding to the overcoming of human ills and discords. Preparation includes a course of study with an authorized teacher of Christian Science and a successful record of healing others. Practitioners not only pray with you but are also happy simply to answer questions about Christian Science.

How can I find a practitioner?

Every month, The Christian Science Journal publishes a worldwide directory of Christian Science practitioners. If a practitioner is listed in the directory, it means he or she works full-time as a healer and has a proven and documented track record of healing success. The Herald of Christian Science also publishes a directory of practitioners who practice in several languages.

You can read or buy The Journal or Herald at any Christian Science Reading Room.

You can order a free copy of The Journal here.

Christian Science nurses

Christian Science nurses are skillful, excellently qualified, non-medical nurses who attend to both your physical needs and spiritual needs. Nurses provide practical care, such as bathing, dressing wounds, assistance with mobility, feeding and so forth but do not administer any kind of medical treatment. Instead, they reassure you with compassionate spiritual support.

You can be nursed in your own home or in a Christian Science care facility, depending on the need.
