The
remarkable spiritual journey of Mary Baker Eddy
Throughout most of the nineteenth century, a brave and Discoverer of the Science of the Christ Her persistence was immense. Finally, in 1866, Mary Baker Eddy discovered divine laws which she proved to be absolutely practical for maintaining human experience in health, joy, and harmony. She tested and retested these laws and, since that time, so have thousands of others. These laws promoting spiritual understanding have proven effective in bringing many a weary traveler safely home. The great Biblical charactersJesus, the apostles, the prophets, plus stong and courageous women such as Esther, Ruth, and Abigail obviously knew how to traverse life's voyage with great spritual strength. What was it that they knew that was so powerful in smoothing life's path? What they knew constituted the essence of Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science. Author of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures Mary Baker Eddy's friends urged her to write down what she had discovered in order to provide a spiritual roadmap for others. This she did. The first edition of Science and Health was published in 1875. Over the next 30-plus years, as her revelation grew, she constantly revised this book. Since then, over ten million copies have been sold and it remains a bestseller. In 1992, the Women's National Book Association named Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures as one of the 75 books by women "whose words have changed the world." "God had been graciously preparing me..." In Science and Health Mary Baker Eddy had this to say about her discovery: "In the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and named my discovery Christian Science. God had been graciously preparing me during many years for the reception of this final revelation of the absolute divine Principle of scientific mental healing." Founder of The Christian Science Monitor Mary Baker Eddy was a devout Christian who lived close to God and practiced what she preached. Throughout her long and accomplished lifeher work as discoverer, healer, author, preacher, teacher, leader, lecturer, publisher and spiritual poetshe turned to God constantly for inspiration, guidance, and healing. In 1908, she founded the highly respected international daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, whose mission she wrote was to injure no man, but to bless all mankind.
